Many people are letting us know that they are having trouble accessing ER planning portal. If so, please…
- try from a computer rather than your phone
- try using a different web browser
- persevere as it is very slow and doesn’t always work first time (annoying I know!)
- and remember to set up an account for planning![]()

VPG CLUB STATEMENT![]()
We are asking you to support young people in Goole achieving excellence in athletics, putting Goole on the world stage.
The planning consultation for the Victoria Pleasure Grounds has been published by East Riding Council.
There is a lot of documentation to go through in the planning application, and we are in the process of carefully going through it while going about our work, looking after our families and other demands that many people face in their day to day lives. It’s particularly striking that at best the consultation gives three weeks to respond, the first three weeks of the summer holidays when many families are away.
From what we have seen so far, the proposals seem to be about supporting football, and to a degree rugby. The proposals are for the Victoria Pleasure Grounds, not the Victoria Football and Rugby grounds.
There is a very strong track record of excellence in athletics in Goole, supported by Goole Youth Athletics Club using the 400 metre running track at the VPG. It is important because it allows training to national and international competition standards, which a compact track will not do. The track is a national asset and the only one in the East Riding. The nearest alternative is about 30 miles away. England Athletics see the track as a national asset and have said in very strong terms they want it retained. Goole Youth Athletics Club raised around £20,000 for the maintenance of the running track. The levels of achievement and the successful fundraising effort show a commitment and self discipline among young people and their families that should be encouraged. That’s why we believe the track should be retained.
Members of Goole Youth Athletics wrote to Prime Minister Sunak, Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Michael Gove, and East Riding Council asking them to reconsider the decisions to take away the 400 metre track. We received a response from East Riding Council assuring us that retaining the 400 metre track was still an option. We have not had time to go through all the detail, but the summary of the proposal is to replace the 400m track with a compact track.
We are asking everyone who believes in encouraging and supporting all young people to do their best and achieve excellence, and who believes in Goole people achieving sporting excellence on the world stage to respond to the planning application making it clear that they are submitting an objection and that the 400 metre track should be retained to support young people in Goole in the achievement of excellence in athletics.
The deadline to object is 9th August. To make an objection online go to:
